The International Centre for Water Cooperation (ICWC), hosted by SIWI under the auspices of UNESCO, generates and shares knowledge, and strengthens the capacity for increased water cooperation. In 2023, ICWC developed and contributed to several key knowledge products, such as the Water Diplomacy Handbook, a Routledge product co-produced by ICWC, the Tufts Water Diplomacy Program at Tufts University, and the Water Institute at the University of North Carolina and Chapel Hill. A manuscript of the handbook was submitted in November 2023.
The handbook provides cutting edge knowledge for anyone involved in negotiations around water. Due to a contribution from UNESCO, the book will be published with open access, ensuring the widest dissemination possible.
The Water Diplomacy Handbook will have its own website, allowing for the additional submission of case studies to the book. Even before publication, discussions are ongoing to develop additional materials, such as a training course based on the handbook.
