In 2023, SIWI published the Responsible Antibiotics Manufacturing Platform (RAMP) Framework, which had been under development for two years. It fills a key gap in the management of antibiotic waste by providing a holistic pathway for governments, procurers, manufacturers, and policy makers to prevent antimicrobial resistance. Dr. Iris Panorel, Programme Manager at SIWI explained: “The framework is an attempt to define and harmonise criteria for responsible antibiotics manufacturing that is scientifically backed and fits the purpose of preventing the risk of antimicrobial resistance.”
As an outcome of that process, SIWI has been appointed to contribute to WHO’s Guidance on Waste and Wastewater Management in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing report.
